Role Overview

We are looking for a full-time Backend Developer to take ownership of the development and reliability of backend systems in active production use.

This is not only a feature-development role. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving existing backends, third-party integrations, subscription and billing logic, background processes, analytics pipelines, and production stability.

You will work closely with the product team and frontend/mobile developers, and will be expected to independently investigate problems, propose solutions, implement them, and test backend changes before release.

Experience Level

We are ideally looking for a Senior Backend Developer who can work independently and take ownership of backend systems.

Strong mid-level developers with relevant production experience are also welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

Maintain and develop backend APIs consumed by mobile apps, web portals, and admin dashboards
Take ownership of existing backend architecture and business logic
Build and maintain integrations with social platform APIs, including Instagram/Meta and TikTok
Manage OAuth flows — access/refresh tokens, permissions, token refresh and re-authentication
Build and maintain Stripe subscription and billing integrations
Implement backend logic for marketplace-style workflows: applications, collaborations, and subscriptions
Maintain analytics and performance data processing
Develop and maintain background jobs, scheduled synchronization, and data-processing tasks
Investigate and resolve production issues
Improve backend performance, reliability, and scalability
Maintain database integrity and optimize queries where necessary
Implement proper logging, error handling, and monitoring
Review pull requests and maintain backend code quality
Write tests for new functionality and bug fixes
Test backend changes before handing features over for product QA
Work closely with mobile and frontend developers on API requirements
Participate in sprint planning and technical discussions
Identify technical debt and propose improvements instead of only implementing individual tickets

Technical Requirements

Strong professional experience with Python
Experience building and maintaining production REST APIs
Experience with FastAPI or similar Python frameworks
Strong experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
Hands-on experience with the Meta/Instagram Graph API
Hands-on experience with TikTok APIs
Hands-on experience with Stripe subscriptions, billing, and webhooks
Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0 — access tokens, refresh tokens, token expiration/revocation, permissions/scopes, and re-authorization flows
Experience building and maintaining third-party API integrations in production
Experience with background jobs, scheduled synchronization, and data-processing tasks
Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS
Experience debugging production systems and investigating API/integration failures
Understanding of API security and authentication
Strong Git/GitHub and code-review experience
Ability to understand an existing codebase and take ownership of it
Ability to work independently and communicate technical problems, risks, and proposed solutions clearly

Nice to Have

Experience with social-media analytics and Insights APIs
Experience with marketplace or SaaS products
Experience with analytics/data pipelines
Experience building backends for mobile applications
Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools
Experience joining and improving an existing production system with active users

What We’re Looking For

We need someone who is comfortable owning problems, not just completing tickets.

When an issue occurs in production, we expect the developer to investigate the root cause, understand the impact, propose a solution, implement it, and verify that the problem is actually resolved.

Because the systems you will own depend heavily on external APIs such as Meta, TikTok, and Stripe, being comfortable researching third-party API behavior and handling edge cases is particularly important. Token expiry, missing permissions, billing cycle mismatches, and analytics inconsistencies are the kinds of issues we expect you to trace end-to-end across the backend and tell us what the correct technical solution should be — rather than waiting for someone else to design it for you.

Work Setup

About the Team

You will join a small, senior product and development team inside HeavyTask LLC. We move quickly, and we are actively improving our engineering processes, testing, and production reliability as our systems grow. The backend developer will have an important role in shaping those systems and processes.
